"What is it?" Duo shook the package sharply.
Heero put out his hands to rescue the small box, but Duo stepped back with it and kept it out of reach.
"Mine!" Duo reminded him possessively. "You did give it to me."
Heero sighed, trying for patience and folded his arms over his chest tightly. "Open it, then."
Duo frowned as he looked down at the box. "Dunno. I might just keep it unopened. Never gotten a gift before."
"Not open it?" Heero echoed in confusion. "Duo that's..."
Duo grinned and placed it on the corner of his desk. "Yep," he said, firmly, mind made up. "It will be the gift that keeps on giving."
"It's for Valentine's day," Heero impressed on him. "That's today. It won't be Valentine's day tomorrow."
"Yes, it will," Duo assured him as he sat down and patted the gift lightly. "It'll be Valentine's day every day... as long as I don't open this."
"He has a point," Trowa said from his desk, not looking up from his case paperwork.
Heero glared, even though Trowa didn't notice.
"Duo, I don't understand," Heero tried.
"Yes, you do," Duo assured him as he booted up his computer and pulled up files. "You do still have the wrapping paper and bow from the first gift that I gave you for your birthday."
"How do you know-?"
"I saw it under your gym clothes in your locker," Duo snickered. "Sweet, really it is."
"Maybe, I'm just lazy?"
Duo gave him a look. "Never."
Heero struggled with embarrassment, but then clarified, "So, you'll never open the gift?"
"Well, maybe not never, but I might not get another one," Duo replied with a shrug. "I want to enjoy this one... for years, possibly."
"I don't think I want to wait for years," Heero complained.
"Wait?" Duo looked up at him, curious.
"For your answer," Heero admitted. "The gift is... a question."
"A question?" Duo echoed and then handled the gift again. "Seems a shame..." he muttered. "You wrapped it so nice."
"Because it's that important," Heero told him.
Duo sighed. "Well, since you put it that way. You will give me another gift... sometime... right?"
"Lots of them... if you want me too?"
"Yeah," Duo replied brightly as he opened the small package and pulled out a key. "It's a house key," he said unecccesarily and then looked at Heero with wide eyes. "You gave me a house?"
Trowa laughed, and Heero looked flustered until Duo grinned.
"I'm joking Heero," Duo admitted and then softer. "This is to your place?"
"Our place... I was hoping?" Heero asked tentatively.
"Yeah, our place," Duo accepted and clasped the key tightly in one hand. "Happy Valentine's Day, Heero. I uhm, I'll give you a gift... later... a hot one."
"Saying, yes, was my gift," Heero told him and leaned down for a kiss.
End
Happy Valentine's day!
