The Ifrit came first, glowing in sunlight and perched impossibly on the widowsill of the kitchen. Duo was sitting at the kitchen table eating a shredded meat porridge while Relena sat opposite him eating a creamed rice dish. Wu Fei was leaning against the windowframe, smoking in slow puffs and relaxed. He didn't seem surprised to see the Ifrit.

"This is impossible," the Ifrit complained. "He will die or kill you both attempting to accomidate Humans."

"We are not exactly human," Relena corrected him and then with wary suspicion. "Why are you here?"

"He has sent me away," the Ifrit complained, his shinning form of sunlight seeming to pout. "Night creatures never give reasons."

"Perhaps it was so that you could pursue your own mate?" Wu Fei guessed puffing smoke at the Ifrit. "I was told there was a certain Elf among your band."

"I could burn him!" The Ifrit growled and his glow intensified until it was hard tyo make out his form.

"To what purpose?" Wu Fei wondered with a fine arched brow.

"He wants to bind me to the Earth!"

"And you must decide if your love is enough to allow him to bind you," Wu Fei understood and nodded sagely. "It is the same for these two. It's not an easy thing to decide to court death for love."

Duo reached across the table and took Relena's hand in his. Their eyes met and a decision was made that was firm in it's conviction. They would love Heero together.

The Ifrit gathered itself into a tight ball as if thinking.

WU Fei chuckled. "You have already made up your mind Ifrit. Go to him."

The Ifrit wasn't without spite. It burned the velvet curtains and some of Wu Fei's hair as it tore across the landscape towards it's love in the forest.

"I forsee a spate of forest fires," Wu Fei sighed as the burned hair lost it's burnt edges and became perfectly slicked back into it's pony tail again.

"Doesn't that prove that Heero has emotions?" Duo asked anxiously. "He's more than instinct."

"It proves nothing," Wu Fei argued. "Except that a love lost Ifrit may have been both dangerous and useless to keep underfoot."

"I won't give up hope," Duo replied firmly. "I know he cares about us. I can feel it."

"Perhaps you can, but will you be able to live the life of a Night Creature? He will want you with him during the day. The sun noonday sun might become a stranger to you both."

Relena seemed disturbed by that, but she answered, "All things are not absolute. We may find compromises."

"It is a barren world on the heights," Wu Fei persisted. "I have lived long enough to know how long love survives when the mind and body are denied the comfort of what someone loves best. Hearts are not enough children."

"As she said, there may be compromises," Duo replied and then sighed as he poked at his breakfast with a fork. "We shouldn't guess. We should wait until Heero tells us what he wishes."

"And he will rule your lives?" Wu Fei wondered sourly.

"No," Relena replied quickly, chin lifting a little. "If he wishes one or both of us, he must learn other ways besides that of a Night Creature."

"Which brings us back to whether he feels or is simply instinct," Wu Fei sighed. "You can not train a Prince of Vampires like a hound called to heel."

Duo bristled his ruff as he changed from man to wolf, shaking out of his clothes, and pacing away. They watched him go out into the yard to nose after scents and sit in the sun. It was easier not to think as a wolf, easier to live in the moment and not wonder what would happen when night fell. Wu Fei was right, of course. As Duo nibbled a blackberry and ate a bug that was just as sweet, he felt joy at the feel of the sun's fingers through his pelt. He couldn't live without that, couldn't live without flying as a hawk through blue skies and seeing the sun and clouds play 'catch me if you can' across rolling hills and forested glens. He liked the night, but he equally loved the day as well.

The sun lulled him into sleep, curled up with his tail over his nose and a gentle breeze ruffling his fur. He hoped it wasn't for the last time.

Duo ended up not leaving the garden. He kept watch, eyes on Heero's favorite perch, as if a blink would make him miss the Night Creature's arrival. It was foolish, of course, he felt the pull of the glamour as soon as the sun dipped behind buildings and shadows ruled the garden.

Relena felt it as well. Wrapped in her cloak, hair free and blowing in a chilling breeze, she didn't even look aside as Duo changed into a man and stood naked beside her. Duo was aroused already and he was certain Relena was feeling the same way.

Heero swept down from his perch, a shadow breaking from shadows and standing before them. He reached out to them both, pale face a mask of concentration as he took their hands. Were they easy prey? Had he come on a simple hunt? Would he drink their blood and then go away? Was their lot in life to wait for him to need them again?

The world turned upside down and then was swept away. Duo felt a bone chill and then he was being pulled tight into Heero's embrace. Teeth pierced his skin and warmth replaced the chill. His heart beat in time to Heero's and he felt passion rise high as his blood left him, as the glamour engulfed every sense and made his nerves sing. It was sex and love and caring all bundled in a strong embrace and when Duo came it was explosive and all encompassing. he felt Heero's response as well and knew that the Prince of Vampires had claimed Relena in a more intimate way. They were locked among ivey, blackberries, and mint, Heero taking blood from each of them and mating Relena as he claimed them both.

Duo didn't have enough mind left to wonder if she would survive it, if Night creature and someone like Relena could have offspring. He was following Heero into his swoon, overcome emotionally and physically and willing to give Heero his last drop of life to continue his.
