Mind's Eye.
Shadow

"You don't remember anything?" Une said in annoyance as she closed her report and sat back in her chair at the conference table. Sally Po, sitting next to her, was nodding, as if it made perfect sense, as she closed the report in front of her as well.

Duo rubbed at his forehead and tried not to shout. "I don't remember a thing. I've already been completely debriefed, so you knwo that. All we do know is that someone kidnaped me, had some jollies, from what it says on Po's report, and... somehow I ended up with a gang and about to get it again. I've got nothing that you can use to pin charges on anyone."

Une's jaw worked for a moment and then she said, "You can see how important this is? Slave traders operating in our cities? The law turns a blind eye to the clones, but if we can nail these people to the wall with charges that will stick... Selling and abusing citizens will put them away for life, but otherwise, all I have to charge them with is a few minor ordinance infractions and operating illegal sex shows. They're even making me return the clones back to their 'owners'... at least the ones that don't show signs of abuse."

"That..." Duo swallowed hard as an ugly emotion almost overwhelmed him. "That isn't right, that they should be treated that way."

"They have the IQ of a lapdog and they were bred for a specific use," Une sighed. "Until the laws are changed, recognizing them as Human Beings with all the accompanying rights, we can only step in when real abuse occurs."

"Nobody knows if he was even there," Heero said darkly from where he sat by Duo's right hand. Une raised an eyebrow at him. Heero continued, more strongly, "No one admits to seeing Duo at the show or seeing him in someone's entourage."

"They wouldn't," Sally growled.

Heero went on, as if he needed to make the situation very clear, "It's possible that I found him out of pure chance and that he had nothing to do with the Pet trade."

Une looked sour. Sally was glaring. She said stiffly, "I examined him. He was recently-"

"Can we not go through that again?!" Duo snapped and felt heat scald his face.

"The DNA doesn't match anyone in that gang," Sally persisted.

Heero gave her a long level look. She glared back for a moment and then seemed to suddenly understand something. She looked down at her report and gripped it with both hands. "I suppose there could have been another member of the gang not there at the time of Heero's rescue."

"The next of kin of those killed at the Pet show are fighting against having any testing done, " Une interjected. "It may be tied up in courts for months. I suspect that they are afraid that some used their own DNA to make their clones."

"That's sick!" Duo exploded. He stood up and grimaced. "Are we done here? Slap them all on the wrists and let 'em go. We don't have a damned thing. I... I just need some time... okay?"

"The investigation will continue," Une promised. "I may need Heero's new contacts in the trade to try to infiltrate their organization later."

Heero nodded, but Duo was already walking out of the room. Heero looked from Une to Sally. "He wasn't there," he said very strongly. "That's the truth until you find someone who can say differently. I want that in his records and in the report."

Une looked down at her nails and Sally whispered, "Of course."

Heero left them and caught up with Duo. Duo's jaw was tight and he was staring very hard at nothing.

"Duo?"

Duo stopped and sighed as he slumped against a wall. "Yeah, Heero... Don't worry about me." He rubbed the back of his neck and looked perplexed. "I just feel like... it should effect me more, that I should need therapy, or something. Instead, I feel like... I don't know... Tired, but like I've been asleep for too long too." He rubbed at the healing mark on his arm where the drug delivery system had been removed. "I don't feel like I've been raped, tortured, or dragged around on a leash...not any of that. Makes me think there's something wrong with me."

"No one has proven that you were at that event, that you were being used... like that," Heero told him. "Why assume the worst?"

"I usually get the worst, that's why," Duo replied dejectedly. "I never thought I'd be hoping to be a gang's bitch toy instead of someone's..."

"Duo..." Heero reached out uncertainly and rubbed Duo's arm. Duo stared in surprise as Heero insisted, "If you can't remember it, then nothing happened."

"In your dream world maybe, but there might be someone out there who can claim he had a piece of my ass," Duo complained. "I don't like that."

"Sometimes, there isn't any justice," Heero replied, "Sometimes, you just have to live your life."

"You sound like Wu Fei," Duo grunted, but then shook himself and straightened. "Okay, done feeling sorry for myself. Time to pick my sorry butt up and get back to work."

Heero took hold of his hand and stopped Duo as he began to walk away. Duo looked back at him with raised eyebrows. "Work can wait," he said and Duo's eyebrows went up to his hairline in shock.

"Did I just hear Heero Yuy says that work can wait?" Duo wondered incredulously.

Heero nodded and then pulled Duo closer to him. He stroked a hand along Duo's firm jaw and said softly, "I think I have my priorities straight now... if you still want to give me a chance?"

Duo grinned. "Hell, Heero, I know I'm never going to change you, but... this is nice." He cocked his head at Heero as they began walking towards the exit to Preventer headquarters. " You really want to start... you know... really being with me and not being just being roommates? I mean, if this is some sort of sympathy crap..."

Heero kissed Duo and felt the hard strength there. He tightened his hand on Duo's and brought him in very close. Why had he waited so long? How could he had immersed himself in his job, in his duty, and blinded himself to this man living under the same roof? With Duo in his arms, with his lips hungrily searching his, he'd never felt so... right.

They broke the kiss and looked into each other's eyes. Duo looked dazed at first and then he regained his cockiness. He smirked and then looked uncertain. "What if... I mean... Somebody had me for his joytoy. I might not be able to... or want to..."

"We'll find out together," Heero promised and caressed his cheek again. "This isn't about going to bed together, Duo."

"No, guess it's not," Duo replied, looking shell shocked again. "Are you sure I'm really... awake? I mean, this is not like you."

"This is me," Heero replied, feeling regret for so much lost time, "I won't promise you that my work won't be my life, but... now I know that I want you to be a part of that life as well."

"That's okay with me," Duo chuckled. "I know what I'm getting. I fought a war with you and lived with you for a whole year, remember?"

"I remember," Heero replied with a smile, but then he said, "Go without me. I'll catch up as soon as I tell Une we're leaving for the day."

"Okay, " Duo replied.

Heero watched him go and then headed, not for Une's office, but for the incinerator chute. He felt content, knowing that his life was unfolding where, before, it had been closed and going stagnant. He didn't want anything to destroy that, especially not sick men who had briefly stolen Duo and used him. Heero dug into his coat pocket and pulled out a harness sparkling with jewels. With a small shiver, he tossed it through the opening. The furnace wouldn't burn the jewels, but it would melt the thin gold and destroy any proof that it had once been a harness for Duo Maxwell.

Epilogue...

Heero thrust into Duo's tight, hot body, both of them sweating and moaning as the bedsprings creaked. Duo was slim, muscled and very flexible. Bent underneath him, he opened himself to Heero while he clutched him close and thrust upwards to meet Heero's downstrokes. His face was in an o of pleasure, eyes glassy and lost in pleasure. Tangled bangs plastered his face and Heero could feel his hot breath on his neck as he tucked down and pushed into Duo as deeply as he could. He came with a strangled sound, every muscle tight as his hips instinctively kept pumping.

"My turn," Duo purred as he pushed Heero up and unbent. Heero moved back a bit and rested on his knees, panting, as Duo sat up. Duo's strong hand hooked behind his neck then and he smiled with wanton desire. If his recent past was affecting him, Duo wasn't showing it. He pulled Heero's head down towards his swollen erection. "Suck it, Heero," he moaned. "Come on."

When Heero bent to take it into his mouth, and tasted silky, hard heat, dripping with salty precum, Duo moaned, "Good. Good boy."

Heero felt a moment of trepidation, but Duo seemed unaware of his own words. The moment passed and Heero worked Duo with his mouth until he came. He didn't mind when Duo showed delight in shooting it all over his face, especially when Duo brought him up, then, and kissed him, sucking on Heero's lips and his own come there. It felt incredible, as if they were mingling themselves together, pulling down a wall between them made of conventionality and that ever present personal space. They were one, in that moment, and Heero wanted it to last as long as possible. When his vid phone rang, he felt like crushing it.

"It's Noin," Duo grunted as he glared at the call number on the screen by the bedside as he flopped onto his back, exhausted.

Heero used an edge of the blanket to wipe off his face. "Let it ring." he growled as he crawled up to Duo and pressed their bodies together.

"Then she'll call back and we may be... involved... again, " Duo told him as he made a thrusting motion with his hips, making his half hard erection wave like a banner.

Heero stared at it until Duo poked him with a blunt finger. "Answer the phone and I'll let you have another taste, okay?"

Heero reached out and stroked Duo's wet erection. Duo pulled it out of his grasp and turned over onto his stomach.

"Answer it or you don't get any," Duo chuckled.

In frustration, Heero moved to the edge of the bed and hit the button on the phone, keeping the visual off. "Yuy here!" he snarled.

"Noin," Noin replied curtly. "I need you to sign a prisoner release from the hospital. You owe me."

Heero frowned. "Details?"

"None," Noin replied.

He did owe her, she had saved his life many times, Heero thought. Still, he wasn't about to return to the dark side of the war, even if it meant only signing a paper.

"Vendetta?" Heero pressed, rejecting her answer.

"No, he won't be killed," Noin replied, "and his family is aware that he is in my custody."

So, his signing was a moot point, Heero thought, she had already acted.

"What will you put on record?" Heero wondered.

"Fines paid, probation under the supervision of a trained agent," Noin replied stiffly and then added, "Indefinitely."

Heero frowned. He asked, but already knew the answer, "Name?"

"Milliardo Peacecraft," Noin replied.

"Done," Heero told her and shut the connection off.

"What the hell?" Duo wondered, but then shrugged. "Guess fucking clones is too much embarrassment for Relena to put up with."

"I suppose," Heero replied thoughtfully, but then shook his head. "Forget about him, about her... " He stretched out alongside Duo and slipped a hand under him to his still hard erection. "Let's concentrate on us."

Duo rolled and looked at Heero's hand stroking him. He smiled. "Okay with me. Who cares what those rich, over-bred morons do to each other anyway?"

Noin turned away from the vidscreen and regarded the large figure on all fours at her feet. She tugged on a leather leash attached to a thick collar around the man's neck. His head came up, eyes dazed with drugs, White hair spilled off of his broad shoulders. The leather harness he wore had nipple clips and a cock ring. A metal ring, held in place at his entrance, was empty of its phallus.

"This is what you want," Noin said softly. "And this is what you deserve. I'm the only one who can bring you low and punish you. Time you were given the same treatment that you gave so carelessly to others." She looked aside and called gently, " Peyo."

The clone from the Pet show came eagerly forward, naked and smiling happily.

"Play time," Noin ordered as if she were giving him a treat.

The dark haired clone looked ecstatic as he went on all fours himself. He nuzzled Milliardo as he draped himself over the man's broad back and thrust his erection into Milliardo through the ring. The sound of metal clinking and jingling harness filled the silence, along with the grunts of Milliardo and Peyo as Peyo rode him.

Noin made a face and turned away. "Only I can give you what you deserve," she repeated.
